We were recently asked this question and again turned to AI for an answer as we were not sure – we’ve used all the local DIY stores and Screwfix – we use them ourselves and have been disappointed. So here is a review of a product which according to AI is the best on the market and suitable for Coastal Beach huts or any other external use in harsh climates.
ABUS 83WP Series Extreme Padlock
The ABUS 83WP Series is a heavy-duty padlock designed specifically for outdoor and exposed environments where corrosion resistance is a priority alongside security.
Construction
Both the shackle and lock body are made from hardened special steel alloy with NANO PROTECT™ coating. A full plastic coating covers the lock body, with drainage channels to remove moisture, and a protective cap over the cylinder to keep out dust and water. The NANO PROTECT™ plating has been tested to withstand over 1,000 hours in a salt bath environment.
Security
The lock uses a 6-pin tumbler cylinder with anti-pick mushroom pins and rust-free internal components, secured by a ball bearing locking mechanism. It carries an ABUS Security Level 8 rating, suitable for securing higher-value items or where theft risk is elevated.
Configuration
Using the included Z-Bar, the lock can be set to either automatic locking — closing by pressing down the shackle — or key-retaining mode, which requires a key to lock. The cylinder is interchangeable, allowing the lock to be integrated into an existing keying system. The shackle is also replaceable.
Typical Applications
Suitable for use on grilles, doors, gates, cabinets, toolboxes, cellar windows, sheds, switchgear, and barriers. Particularly suited to marine and harbour environments, vehicles, and boats where exposure to the elements is constant.
